  1. The story of the box man was written for some purpose that the writer wanted us to think about. So, i strongly think that the story was successful in reaching the idea behind it. The point wasn't introduced directly into the story but it was said between the lines. I learned that people can be happy with any matter they live in and people have the right to choose any options that will make them happy. However, in general the story was very interesting that it corrected my assumptions about homelessness and helped me to look deeper into matters without judging everything in how it looks like from outside.

  2. I would personally say that the essay was quite successful, mainly because it teaches us to be happy; most importantly grateful for the life that we were given. It teaches us to stop looking at what we don't have and start appreciating what we do have a little more, because it is not about the things that we are missing that could bring about the gratification in our lives. In fact it is the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary, but only wise men are able to understand them. The essay definitely appeals to me, simply because it speaks the truth, it spreads the word out there. People need to have the serenity to accept the things that they cannot change and live the life they were given at ease and with content, instead of longing for change. Any change, even a change for the better is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts. Even the one's most longed for have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.

  3. that the essay is successful as a whole because, through the description of three kinds of solitary people, she could show that the common point of view on homeless people is wrong. She points out the difference between chosen and unchosen loneliness, that is to say that homeless people can be happy and satisfied compare to people who have a home. She slightly expresses how she feels, but at the end of the essay she writes what she thinks.
It does appeal to me a bit... I never thought about whether they could be happy or not... and in Paris, they all seemed to be unhappy, and seeking for a better situation.

  4. I would label the essay as successful because it thought me to have a new perspective of different things such as solitude, happiness and gratitude.I think the author was trying to tell us from the very beginning that its always better when you get to control of your life, rather than going with the flow of nature. Also, the story affected how I think about the homeless, that I shouldn't feel so pity for them because they might have chosen to live that life. The way the author painted a picture in our heads by describing the surroundings of the two characters namely the box man and the lady in the coffee shop, appealed to me to a lot.I also understood that being lonely sometimes is better.

  5. I think that the essay was successful in delivering the author point to readers but to the examples mentioned by about the other lonely people, was the reason for my confusion somewhat.
Generally understood that happiness is something we can get an optional at any time, any place, regardless of the circumstances surrounding us.
And contentment is the key to happiness and evidence of this reluctance is the ignorance of The Box Man for any alternative options that may seem an opportunity to improve its current situation.

  8. Throught the essay i have noticed that the author implies to the reader that loneliness isnt always an unpleasant living. Also the author shows the difference between chosen and unchosen loneliness. i powerfully think that this essay was very successful as the auther indicates that homless poeple might be happy at the way they are leaving. In addition making the reader realise not to judge from physical appearances and to look differently at homeless poeple. They may be lonely however they're happy that way.

  9. I believe the story was successful because I think the author wanted to deliver four ideas to the reader and she successfully did that .First thing is don’t judge people by their looks .Just because The Box Man was homeless and had nowhere to go to doesn’t mean he’s necessarily unhappy .And that he chose that life because It was the kind of life that would make him happy .Second thing is be imaginative .The Box Man only had a cardboard carton and a plastic box but he was reading the newspaper just as other cultured men would . Third thing is always be unique don’t do things just because other people do .Have your own personal ideas and go by them don’t be just like any other normal person in the world .DO what you think is best for you .Fourth and last thing is be adaptive .Always adapt with what you have don’t see other people who have this and that just be thankful for what you have and use it to your benefit instead of complaining about it.

the essay is sure interasting but it did not change my mind about neither homelessness or happiness i still think homelessness is wrong regardless of the person being happy or not and i always knew that happiness had nothing to do with being rich but it is about having the basics of a respectful life and living in a box is just no life for a human being.also the bitterness of being lonley chosen or not never goes away because the nature of humans in genral is being social so i wonder what well happen to the box mans happiness in two or three years
the writer said that she longs to live like a boxcar child to let the imagination hold sway but me i dont think that being a boxcar child is what made them imaginative it is just there character and that is the situation with the box man as well.and finally in the 3rd paragraph the writer said "he shuffled across the street like a man who must feel earth with his toes to know that he walks there" but what i would see is a sad man who is walking barefoot so to sum up what i thought is that i would not look deeper in what is obvious to me.
